Success Story: Head Start doesn't just help kids

Throughout the 2020-2021 school year, I have been witness to many successes in the lives of Head Start families. The following is an example of a family that benefited from our program. While following up on attendance it was discovered that a student and his father were homeless and having transportation issues. They were staying with various family members and friends. The father was unable to obtain a job due to lack of reliable transportation.

The family was referred to the Neighborhood Service Center for assistance. Through Community Service Block Grant funds, the dad was able to get a deposit for an apartment and received money for repairs for his truck. He was then able to secure a job and has been able to pay his rent.

The improvement of this family’s well-being was a direct result of a routine family contact. This is just one example of the impact Head Start has on the families we serve. There are numerous untold stories each year. The life of every family in the program is improved in some way. I am thankful to be a part of a program that touches so many lives.
